Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos Prieur

Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos Prieur

Appellation: Gevrey-Chambertin
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Vineyards: Single parcel below the Grand Cru Mazis-Chambertin
Average age of vines: 50 years
Principal soil type: Clay and limestone

The grapes for this bottling come exclusively from the Clos Prieur parcel adjacent to the premier cru of the same name and just below Mazis-Chambertin grand cru. From this sector of Gevrey, come wines delicate and accessible and among the most feminine of the commune.

A classic Gevrey nose features notes of earth, the sauvage, underbrush and somber dark berry fruit. There is excellent density to the sleek and powerful medium weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the equally long and seamless finish. While qualitatively similar to the La Justice the mouth feel and character of these two are quite different from one another.
