Domaine D’Ouréa - Southern Rhône
Domaine D'Ouréa was created in 2010, when Adrien Roustan inherited 12 hectares of prized vineyard from his grandfather Raymond Bertrand, in the cru appellations of Gigondas and Vacqueyras. Since that time, he has been able to grow the domaine to 20 hectares and expand the range to include a Vacqueyras blanc and a Vin de France bottling, Tire Bouchon The high elevation Gigondas parcel in the lieu-dit of Grand Montmirail, between 400 and 520 m is among the highest in the appellation and inspired the name for the domaine, as Ouréa was the Greek God for mountains and heights.
His parents not being winemakers, and grandfather having only grown and sold grapes, Adrien learned what he could on his own before he opted to attend Beaune's oenology/viticulture program and develop his winemaking skills outside of his native environs. He spent 3 years in Burgundy, the culminating experience being an apprenticeship at Domaine Romanée Conti in 2007. Afterwards, he spent a season at Turley Cellars in California before returning home to take over his grandfather's parcels and realize the dream of becoming the first in the family to produce, bottle and sell wine under his own label. His work at DRC and Turley, both deeply embedded in organic work, only confirmed for the young winemaker that the organic path was his path in paying the greatest respect to the land, those who worked upon it (himself) and to those who consume the finished product.
In the cellar, Adrien works with his fruit in whole bunches as much as possible. The bunches undergo a light crush upon entering the tank and from there extraction in judicious. He likens the process more to an infusion than to extraction. The result are evident across the range. Purity and elegance are words that keep coming up when tasting his wines. Laser like intensity, vibrant fruit with floral accents, fine, well integrated tannins and impressive length. In short time, the young winemaker has earned international attention and added his name among those to watch in the Southern Rhône.
Tire Bouchon, Vin De FranceBright and fruit forward. Seamless. Impressive elegance for an “apéro” wine for friends.
VacqueyrasAn explosion of dark berry fruit, floral notes, plush, velvety palate and supple tannins make this wine extremely attractive in its youth.
GigondasMajority Grenache with a small Syrah addition from single parcel of Grand Montmirail, planted in 1975.
